EyesOnly (supplied with Password Protect 6)
Intro
Included with the Password Protection 6 Extension is EyesOnly which is optionally used to add extra protection code to each of your protected pages. Find it on the Insert/Valleywebdesigns.com menu or on the Goodies tab of the Insert Bar.
EyesOnly adds code to your page which allows it to be seen only when accessed by pages on your website. Attempts to see the page from elsewhere are thwarted. (Altho I assume it can be hacked into with enough effort.)
Not every server will support
the code in EyesOnly at all, and some do not support Server Side
Includes, so before
adding EyesOnly to your pages, run our simple
test of your server.
Based
on the results of this test, if you DO add the SSI option of EyesOnly
to optimally protect your private pages, then you will need to
change their file extensions to the SSI file extension required
by your server (e.g "yourpagename.shtm")
and you will need to know this before adding PasswordProtect6
to your page! This may be tedious but it is not hard to do, and
the Test page will give you the info you need for this.
Note
also that even if your server does not support the EyesOnly component
at all, you can still use PasswordProtect 6 very effectively!
Note that Password Protection 6 is added to your page that will be accessing the protected pages, whereas EyesOnly is added to the protected pages themselves.
If you have used Password Protect 6 to control access to your page, there will be no href links from your site to it, so no Search Engine spider should ever reach it and EyesOnly will be almost redundant. EyesOnly does add an extra layer of safety though, like for someone trying to reach your page via a saved bookmark.
